Features: The book chronicles the Qing Dynasty from the reign of the Taizu Emperor to the Xuantong Emperor, covering various fields such as politics, military, economy, culture, ethnic relations, and foreign exchanges, providing a comprehensive and detailed reflection of the historical landscape of the Qing Dynasty. The sources are drawn from the official records of each dynasty during the Qing period, as well as historical books, archives, and documents from the late Qing era and beyond. It is indeed a well-researched, accurate, well-organized, and vividly written history book. To understand the history of the Qing Dynasty, it is necessary to compile a history book that is rich in content, reliable, and presents an objective perspective on the Qing era. Such a book can be in the form of chapters, biographies, chronicles, or annals. The newly compiled Qing Shi Ji Shiben adopts the annals style, chosen for two reasons. First, this style is more concise than biographies and more detailed than chronicles, making it essential for historical works of each dynasty. Second, to date, no satisfactory Qing history written in this style has been published. Books covering the entire Qing Dynasty written in the annals style have only existed in the eighty-volume, 400,000-word Qing Shi Ji Shiben by Huang Hongshou in the early Republican era. This book is divided into ten volumes, with each volume containing approximately 300,000 words and covering fifty events, totaling about five hundred events. The scope of events ranges from the reign of the Taizu Emperor to the Xuantong Emperor. The fields covered include politics, military, economy, culture, ethnic relations, and foreign exchanges, aiming to briefly reflect the historical landscape of the Qing Dynasty from all angles, with special attention to recording events with distinctive characteristics and significant lessons. The sources are based on the official records of each dynasty during the Qing period, as well as various historical books, archives, and other documents discovered and utilized by academia since the late Qing era.
