Features: Sometimes, a person can achieve wealth not because they are smarter than others, but because people are moved by their charisma and give them greater help and opportunities. If there are flaws in one's character, even if they achieve temporary success, they will eventually fall into a painful abyss. One day, Wei Ni decided with his friend to team up and "make a deal," targeting a truck carrying Revlon cosmetics. While the truck driver was eating at a fast-food restaurant, they sneaked onto the truck, started the engine themselves, and drove off with a load of lipstick and skincare products. However, although they succeeded, selling so much stolen cosmetics was not easy, even in Brooklyn in the 1960s. When they tried to sell the goods, they might have been caught by the police or extorted "protection money" by local gangsters. So, Wei Ni and his accomplice had to find a way to sell the stolen items.
The two men first found jobs on Wall Street. Wall Street has always been a densely populated area, with many companies hiring traders and secretaries, each earning decent salaries and seemingly preferring high-quality goods. Wei Ni found a low-level job at a large brokerage and began looking for opportunities to resell the stolen goods. Lipstick was sold for $2, $3, or $4 each, which was easy to sell, and the items were in high demand. His accomplice did the same thing. They earned about $100 a day, which amounted to around $30,000 a year in the 1960s. For two Brooklyn entrepreneurs, making $30,000 a year was quite impressive. Thus, they earned a decent salary and additional dividends on Wall Street just by selling Revlon cosmetics.
However, these illegally acquired goods would eventually be sold out. Ironically, Wei Ni later found that Wall Street life was just as thrilling as his past days on the streets. So, he stayed on Wall Street, working as a stock trader in the over-the-counter (OTC) market for 20 years. Perhaps during that time, he even traded Revlon stocks for fun—who knows? Later, it was rumored that Wei Ni was living on social welfare. His Wall Street venture collapsed in 1987, and the company was also involved in a stock case. Wealth leaves the same way it came—the law of money: money earned through means cannot last.
A person with good character has good relationships; a person with poor character naturally has poor relationships. If a person lacks character, no one will want to do business with them. Many speculators, including some who call themselves successful, do not take their careers seriously. They believe that as long as they can make money, they do not care about losing their integrity. They think money can replace everything. Remember: No character, no profit. P01-02
