As human society continuously progresses and wisdom grows, our ancestors have left us with abundant experiences and lessons. In the 21st century, we hope to resolve our conflicts and contradictions in better ways.
As both China and Japan entered modernity, how did their relations change, what were their characteristics, was the "Tanaka Memorial" a real document or a fabricated one, how should Japan's puppet regime in China be viewed, where do the differences lie regarding historical textbooks between China and Japan, and other related issues. These questions are not only debated in academic circles of both countries but also further affect ordinary citizens, ultimately shaping the direction of bilateral relations. How can we overcome historical barriers to achieve lasting peace and friendship, and what contributions can historians make in this regard.
This book is an effort by a group of Chinese scholars in Japan to enhance the exchange and communication between scholars of both countries, thereby fostering mutual understanding and comprehension. It represents a preliminary step toward achieving a certain degree of consensus among scholars on historical issues.
