Publish Date: 2006-05-01
Features: This book is a comprehensive collection of the sayings and deeds of Confucius. The sayings and deeds included in this book are all sourced from pre-Qin and Han Dynasty classics, but not all the sayings and deeds of Confucius recorded in pre-Qin and Han Dynasty classics are included. The book is divided into two parts: the Inner Canon and the Outer Canon. The Inner Canon is sourced from the Analects and is organized into ten volumes in the original order of the book. The Outer Canon is sourced from other pre-Qin and Han Dynasty classics, and its credibility is not as high as that of the Analects. It is arranged in the order of the time when the sources were compiled. There are many repetitions of Confucius's sayings and deeds in pre-Qin and Han Dynasty classics, and this book only selects the earliest occurrence of each. The various documents selected in this book generally follow the common versions such as the Thirteen Classics and the Collected Works of the Masters, and other versions are referenced for collation. The collation details are all explained in the notes. To facilitate general readers' understanding, this book provides phonetic and semantic annotations and colloquial translations of the original texts. Confucius is the representative and symbol of Chinese culture.
