The Death of the CEO
Bang! A loud explosion. The people waiting in the CEO's reception room were shocked, their mouths wide open. Some even dropped their glasses to the ground. The startled secretary, still reeling from the shock, quickly ran toward the CEO's office, which had just exploded. The others, now fully awake, also rushed over.
The Yamashima Chemical Company, located in Osaka, Japan, had only been established a few years ago. However, due to its affordable prices and wide variety of products, its business had been doing well. But recently, the company was sued by local residents for water pollution, causing a media frenzy that led to a sharp decline in sales. Now, the company was heavily in debt. The people waiting in the reception room were creditors.
The CEO had just returned from an outing and said he would go back to his office to take a call, instructing the secretary to attend to the guests first. But unexpectedly, within just a few minutes, an explosion came from the CEO's office. Vice President Kawanabe, who worked in the neighboring office, heard the noise and rushed over. He pushed through the crowd to the CEO's side, checked the body, and found that the CEO was already dead. He immediately called the police and carefully picked up a few pieces of paper on the ground.
After the police examined the scene, they found no explosives and asked if anyone had been there. Everyone said that only Vice President Kawanabe had entered to check the body and pick up some papers. Inspector Yokohama also learned that the CEO had a history of heart disease and had recently suffered a recurrence due to company issues, relying on medication to manage it.
Yokohama thought for a moment and immediately realized it was Kawanabe's scheme. He ordered Kawanabe's arrest. Kawanabe tried to justify himself, claiming he had only picked up some exploded confidential documents. But Yokohama replied with a cold laugh, "Mr. Kawanabe, if you insist on saying that, we'll just have to take a look at those 'confidential documents' you coated with iodine compounds. You used them to 'scare' the CEO to death, didn't you?"
Upon hearing this, Kawanabe instantly collapsed.
It turned out that Kawanabe, seeing the company thriving, wanted to take it over for himself. So he pretended to be a creditor and wrote letters to the court, causing the CEO to have a heart attack. With a background in chemistry, Kawanabe used the explosive properties of triiodide to coat several documents with the compound and place them under the CEO's desk. He then told the CEO there was an important call. The CEO accidentally stepped on the "documents," triggering an explosion that killed him on the spot.
