To help readers understand the basic knowledge of mental science and its application in clinical work, the General Theory section provides a relatively detailed introduction to the symptomatology, history-taking, etiology, and treatment of mental diseases. It also outlines the overall picture of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) psychology and TCM psychiatry, and proposes approaches and methods for the integration of TCM and Western medicine in psychiatry based on summarizing experiences and lessons. The Specific Topics section consists of ten chapters, with the order generally following the "Chinese Classification and Diagnostic Criteria for Mental Disorders" (CCMD). The diagnostic criteria primarily use CCMD-2-R, with references to ICD-10 and DSM-IV. Since this book describes each disease at both Western medicine and TCM levels, it primarily selects diseases for which TCM has some understanding for introduction. For example, paranoid schizophrenia, obsessions in neurosis, hypochondriasis, personality disorders, and intention control disorders have rarely been discussed or even mentioned in traditional Chinese medicine since ancient times, so they are not included in this book. Some rare organic brain mental disorders and mental disorders caused by somatic diseases, as well as mental disorders caused by active mental substances and non-dependent substances, are also excluded. Cyclical psychiatry has an undefined status in classification, but TCM has a special therapeutic effect on this condition, so a dedicated chapter is included for its introduction.
