Patient's question:
My blood type is O, the baby's blood type is AB, and the little baby is A. My little baby is 40 days old, and the skin is still yellow. The jaundice index is 5.8 (the normal upper limit is 3.0). Due to insufficient breast milk, I add formula milk twice a day. I would like to consult how to mix feed the baby with jaundice?Doctor's answer:
Jaundice typically persists continuously for 3 to 4 weeks. It gradually subsides in the second month. A small portion may take up to 10 weeks to fully resolve. During the jaundice period, if breastfeeding is stopped for 3 to 4 days, the jaundice will significantly improve. Bilirubin levels drop by ≥50%. If breastfeeding is resumed afterward, jaundice may not reappear. If it does, it will not reach the original severity. Currently, the baby's jaundice index is mildly elevated, and the issue is not significant. If the baby is generally doing well, no special treatment is needed.
