How to deal with recurrent viral low fever in children

Patient's question:

My niece has a very good constitution, but recently, due to the unstable weather with fluctuating temperatures, she caught a cold. Later, she also developed a fever. Taking medication helped reduce the fever, but without medication, it would return. This has been happening repeatedly, and I don’t know what to do. How should persistent, recurring viral fevers in children be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Children with fever should not be rushed to use medication to reduce it. Generally, it is not necessary to lower the temperature if it does not exceed 38.5℃. Especially before a clear diagnosis is made. Usually, when a child's temperature is above 38.5℃, it is best to drink more hot water, rest more, closely monitor changes in the condition, or use physical cooling methods to reduce the fever. However, if the fever persists for too long or the temperature is too high (below 38.5℃), then antipyretic medication must be used to provide necessary treatment. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
