What are the symptoms of breast tenderness?

Patient's question:

No

Doctor's answer:

Several common physiological breast pain:
Pubertal breast pain
Pubertal breast pain is the earliest type of breast pain experienced by girls, typically occurring between the ages of 9 and 13. At this stage, a girl's breasts begin to develop, starting with the protrusion of the nipples. Small, round, pea-sized or bean-sized hardened nodules may appear beneath the nipples, accompanied by mild tenderness and discomfort. After menarche, as the breasts mature, this pain usually resolves on its own.
Premenstrual breast pain
More than half of women experience breast fullness, hardness, and tenderness before menstruation. In severe cases, even slight vibrations or collisions can cause significant pain, and existing granular or nodular sensations may become more pronounced. This is due to the increase in estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, leading to breast hyperplasia and edema in the interstitial tissue. These changes typically disappear after menstruation begins.
Pregnancy-related breast pain
Some women experience breast pain around 40 days into pregnancy. The placenta and trophoblasts secrete large amounts of estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin, causing breast hyperplasia and enlargement, which leads to breast tenderness. In severe cases, this pain may persist throughout the entire pregnancy and usually does not require treatment.
