What should be done about jaundice and pneumonia in newborns?

Patient's question:

The doctor at the hospital said the baby's jaundice index was high. After one session of phototherapy, the baby's jaundice index dropped to 8. However, after stopping phototherapy, it returned to 11. The next day after admission for treatment, the baby was found to have pneumonia. I would like to ask what should be done about the baby's jaundice and pneumonia?

Doctor's answer:

Newborn pneumonia can increase the body's metabolic processes. It leads to the accelerated aging and destruction of red blood cells. Additionally, viruses can directly cause liver cell necrosis, ultimately resulting in impaired excretion of bilirubin, leading to neonatal jaundice. Therefore, parents need to actively treat newborn pneumonia. Once the pneumonia infection is cleared, jaundice can subside. Infant pneumonia is primarily characterized by difficulty breathing, issues, suffocation, severe respiratory failure, and infectious pneumonia often causes high fever. Infant pneumonia progresses rapidly. It requires attention. Hospitalization is usually necessary. Most babies will develop jaundice. Infant pneumonia can worsen jaundice symptoms. Blue light therapy is the best treatment.
