I am 17 weeks pregnant with 3.2 cm of amniotic fluid. Is this normal?

Patient's question:

The doctor recommended I have an amniocentesis. The fetal biparietal diameter is about 3.3 cm, and the femur length is about 1.6 cm. Is this normal?

Doctor's answer:

Analysis of the condition: Your amniotic fluid is low. Amniocentesis may cause some discomfort, but it is the most accurate examination method.
Advice: The amount of amniotic fluid varies from person to person. It usually increases gradually as the gestational week progresses. At 12 weeks, it is about 50cc, and in the second trimester, it is approximately 3,400cc. It reaches its maximum volume of around 1,000cc around weeks 36 to 38 of pregnancy. After the due date, it significantly decreases.
