His ancestors included the renowned military strategist Sima Qianju and the distinguished general Tian Shu. Sun Wu gained recognition for his military strategies before King Heli of Wu, was appointed as a general, and served as an advisor to the king. He achieved significant accomplishments, including defeating the powerful state of Chu in the west and intimidating the states of Qi and Jin in the north, thereby establishing an indelible legacy in securing Wu's dominance as a hegemon during the Spring and Autumn period. "The Art of War" was approximately compiled around 515 BC. The book consists of thirteen chapters. "The Art of War" has also gained high international acclaim. It spread to foreign countries over a thousand years ago during the Tang Dynasty and has been translated into various languages such as English, Japanese, French, German, and Italian. It has attracted widespread global attention and has become a shared treasure of humanity.
