What factors are related to luteal phase deficiency?

Patient's question:

Stomachache, feeling very uncomfortable.

Doctor's answer:

1. Insufficient luteinizing hormone (LH) peak during ovulation.
2. Insufficient luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion during the luteal phase or inadequate pulsatile secretion of LH.
3. Insufficient follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion during the follicular phase, with low levels of FSH and estradiol in follicular fluid.
4. Abnormal steroid hormone receptors in endometrial cells, leading to poor responsiveness to hormones secreted by the corpus luteum, which may result in normal luteal function but poor endometrial development.
Luteal phase defect can cause luteal phase bleeding, impaired implantation of the fertilized egg, infertility, and habitual abortion. Maintaining normal luteal function relies on the proper functioning of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian-gonadal axis. Abnormalities during both the luteal and follicular phases can also lead to luteal dysfunction. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can be used for treatment. TCM herbal formulas such as Yu Gong / Pei Lin Wan are effective.
