What to do about threatened miscarriage?

Patient's question:

My wife got pregnant in May last year, but at about 50 days, the fetus naturally miscarried. The doctor said it was a threatened miscarriage. My wife was in immense pain and decided to take good care of her body to prepare for another pregnancy. In March this year, my wife got pregnant again, and we are both very happy and nervous, as we are worried due to the previous miscarriage.

Doctor's answer:

(1) General treatment: If threatened miscarriage occurs, the pregnant woman should rest in bed and reduce activity, but it does not mean lying motionless for 24 hours, even being afraid to get up for urination or defecation. Excessive mental tension can actually lead to miscarriage. Appropriate light activities should be performed. Sexual activity must be strictly prohibited. Unnecessary vaginal examinations should be minimized to reduce stimulation to the uterus.
(2) Medication treatment: Progesterone can be used to prevent miscarriage. Progesterone helps ensure embryonic development, maintain pregnancy, inhibit uterine smooth muscle contractions, and reduce uterine tension.
