Does endometritis always require a D&C to remove the IUD?

Patient's question:

Hello, in the past two months, during my menstrual period, there were a few days when the blood was coffee-colored. In May, I was diagnosed with endometritis, which has been fluctuating in condition. The doctor suggested that I have a D&C (dilation and curettage) to remove the IUD. However, I don't want to remove the IUD, and it has been a couple of months already. Is it necessary to have a D&C for endometritis?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, it is still necessary to remove the IUD after diagnosis because the time has been too long. After the D&C, you still need to undergo anti-inflammatory treatment. Do not stop the treatment to avoid the possibility of it worsening.
Advice: It is recommended to seek timely treatment and not to delay the best time for treatment. At the same time, an ultrasound examination should be performed to determine if there is a possibility of adnexal cysts! Hope this helps!
