Can Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Be Cured?

Patient's question:

Since last November, I haven't had my period. I've sought medical help everywhere but haven't found a solution. They just said it's an endocrine disorder. I've taken many medications, but nothing has helped. Eventually, someone introduced me to an expert—a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. After examining me, they said it's polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and that this condition can lead to infertility. They told me to cooperate actively with the treatment and to have an open mind. But who can be cheerful when they're constantly drinking bitter herbal decoctions? Now, I just want to know, can this condition actually be completely cured? I'm 25, not married, and planning to get married around the New Year. But how can I explain this to my in-laws if things keep going like this? I'm in so much pain. What if I can't have children? Today, the doctor at the hospital said that for now, they can only...

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disease characterized by hormonal imbalance. Its features include: anovulation, enlarged ovaries with multiple cysts; it requires three to six months of treatment. In a normal menstrual cycle, usually one or two follicles develop and mature before being released. In PCOS, many follicles develop simultaneously, preventing any of them from maturing, which can lead to infertility.
The treatment plan involves taking birth control pills for the first three months to control follicular development. Starting in the fourth month, hormone regulation begins to promote follicular maturation. At this stage, typically one or two to three follicles mature. Under ultrasound monitoring, sexual activity is guided to achieve pregnancy, which means pregnancy may be possible as early as the fourth month. If pregnancy does not occur, further treatment in the fifth and sixth months is required.
Hormone regulation must follow the menstrual cycle and cannot be rushed. Wishing you good luck with your pregnancy!
