Patient's question:
Recently, I've had itching in the external genital area and a significant increase in vaginal discharge. The hospital said I have bacterial vaginosis.Doctor's answer:
The treatment methods for candidal vaginitis are as follows:1. Antifungal agents:
- Examples: Nystatin vaginal suppositories (containing 250,000 U of nystatin) are inserted into the deep vagina, once in the morning and once in the evening, or once daily for 2 weeks.
- Oral nystatin 500,000 U, four times daily.
- Local application of nystatin ointment, twice daily.
- Oral ketoconazole 400 mg, twice daily for 5 days.
- Griseofulvin (see the treatment for trichomoniasis). Additionally, oral clotrimazole or miconazole 0.5–1 g, three times daily, or local use of 1–5% ointment or cream, three to four times daily, also yields good results.
2. Adjusting the vaginal pH:
- For example, using alkaline drugs to rinse the vagina, such as rinsing with a 2–4% soda solution, can alter the environment in which the fungus thrives.
