Endocrine infertility examination includes which items

Patient's question:

I have been trying to conceive for a year and haven't been able to get pregnant. I used to be very thin, but I gained a lot of weight after getting married. My friend said it might be due to endocrine disorders, and I want to go to the hospital tomorrow for a detailed check-up. I don't know what tests are involved in diagnosing infertility caused by endocrine disorders.

Doctor's answer:

Hello,
1. Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH): It is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by basophilic cells in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Its main function is the development and maturation of ovarian follicles. High FSH levels are seen in conditions such as premature ovarian failure, ovarian insensitivity syndrome, and primary amenorrhea.
2. Luteinizing hormone (LH): It is also a glycoprotein hormone secreted by basophilic cells in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Its main function is to promote ovulation and the formation of the corpus luteum, which secretes hormones. If FSH is high and LH is also elevated, it is highly indicative of ovarian failure. An LH/FSH ratio ≥ 3 is one of the diagnostic criteria for polycystic ovary syndrome.
