Features: Huang Fayou is currently teaching at the School of Literature and Journalism at Shandong University. His main research areas include modern and contemporary Chinese literature, Hakka studies, and more. In recent years, he has focused on research topics such as the dissemination and reception of contemporary literature, Western Sinology, Chinese literature and culture in the 20th century, and Hakka immigrant culture. This book presents the author's observations and research on contemporary Chinese literature, covering topics such as freelancers and institutional changes in contemporary Chinese literature, the aesthetic mainstream of the "Seventeen Years" literature, the subterranean flow of poetry during the Cultural Revolution, the cultural logic of the 1980s literature, and cultural nationalism and literature in the New Period. The texts included in this book are over 90% written after joining Shandong University, with only a small portion composed during his doctoral studies at Fudan University. Some revisions have also been made after joining Shandong University. The inclusion of these texts in the "Wangyue Collection" sponsored by the School of Literature and Journalism at Shandong University serves as both a record and a necessary reflection. I have always appreciated well-reasoned and evidence-based questioning and probing, as these perspectives can inspire deeper academic thinking. However, to avoid appropriating others' work, most of the texts in this book have been retained in their original form, with only necessary corrections made to some references and writing errors. These texts merely express my personal preliminary views on contemporary Chinese literature. The discussion on the logical evolution of the contemporary literary history is not only incomplete but is bound to have biases.
