Features: Based on the guiding principles of the Ministry of Education of China regarding the construction of experimental teaching demonstration centers in higher education institutions, this textbook aims to establish a scientific and systematic experimental teaching system centered on the cultivation of abilities, with a hierarchical and modular structure that is interconnected. The book is divided into 3 chapters and lists 21 experiments, including fundamental experiments such as tension, compression, torsion, normal bending stress, combined bending and torsion deformation, column stability, impact, and fatigue. For fundamental experiments, the theoretical basis and basic approach of experimental design are elaborated, and the experimental steps are listed as comprehensively as possible to facilitate students' independent completion. Additionally, the book includes selective or design-oriented experiments such as the determination of residual extension strength of metal materials, the measurement of fracture toughness K1c, the strength testing of pressure vessels, residual stress testing, and the influence of temperature on material mechanical properties. For these experiments, the requirements are emphasized, and expanding the engineering background of the experiments helps to cultivate students' spirit of exploration and innovative ability. The book also provides an in-depth yet accessible introduction to resistance strain gauge measurement technology and photoelastic experimental methods, along with several basic experiments on experimental stress analysis. Furthermore, the book briefly introduces the structural principles and operating procedures of experimental instruments and equipment, and lists the national standards for engineering material mechanical property experiments in the appendix. This book can serve as a textbook for undergraduate students of engineering universities in the experimental course of material mechanics, as well as a reference for university teachers, engineering technicians, and experimental technicians.
