Features: To help high school teachers and students grasp the current direction of China's basic education and college entrance examination, and to understand the spirit of the new teaching syllabus on senior high school English teaching, we have invited a group of senior and advanced English teachers with rich teaching experience at the high-stakes line of teaching and Gaokao marking to compile this book, Pengteng English: New Design for Senior High School Special Training—Reading Comprehension (Grade 10). Based on the new curriculum standards, this book closely aligns with the New Examination Syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education and incorporates the content of recent English Gaokao questions, striving to be novel, comprehensive, and practical. We firmly believe that this book can not only be used by high school students for regular study and preparation but also serve as a reference for English teachers. The book includes three chapters: Solving Skills Tips, Special Training New Design, and Answers and Explanations.
[Solving Skills Tips]
This section provides a comprehensive analysis of the complete blank-filling question type and its characteristics, deeply summarizing the solving strategies and techniques for cloze tests. It helps students better understand the knowledge and ability requirements of the Gaokao, familiarize themselves with the question types, grasp the trends of question setting, explore the patterns of question setting, and develop strategies to improve their skills and master the steps and techniques for solving problems.
[Special Training New Design]
This section aims to help students conduct effective cloze exercises and improve their time management and speed control abilities. After each passage, we design multiple-choice questions based on common Gaokao question types (main idea questions, detail comprehension questions, inference and judgment questions, summarization questions, vocabulary understanding questions, sentence meaning questions, attitude and opinion questions, true-or-false identification questions, content sequencing questions, and numerical calculation questions). These questions are categorized to thoroughly explore the resources of the passages from multiple angles. Additionally, for each passage, we provide the following information and parameters.
[Genre]
Closely aligned with the syllabus and new Gaokao requirements, the passages are rich in ideology, knowledge, and a strong sense of the times. Various genres alternate. The topics cover nature, science and technology, culture and education, sports, music, foreign customs, biographies, social history, daily life, fables, and various application texts. They are closely tied to all aspects of social life, enabling students not only to improve their English proficiency through reading and exercises but also to enhance their interest in learning English and broaden their knowledge.
[Word Count]
To help students recognize and improve their reading speed, we have counted the word count of each passage. Students can adjust their reading and answering time according to their own level.
[Suggested Time]
By timing their reading, students can strengthen their time awareness, cultivate good reading habits, and avoid affecting their normal performance during exams due to time constraints.
[Answers and Explanations]
This section is compiled with the theme of "Essential Tips for Solving Problems." It not only provides the standard answers to the exercises but also offers concise analysis of the solving strategies and processes, while pointing out the scope of assessment. The thorough explanations by experienced teachers will help you overcome all obstacles in your studies.
