Pregnant 33 weeks, pain at the symphysis pubis

Patient's question:

Description of the problem: I am 33 weeks pregnant. In the past few days, I have been experiencing pubic bone pain, especially when turning over, getting out of bed, lifting one leg, or bending over. The pain started relatively mild a few days ago but has suddenly become much more severe recently. Please ask: 1. How long does this pain usually last? 2. How can it be improved or treated?

Doctor's answer:

This is due to the condition known as "pubic symphysis diastasis." The pubis consists of two bones, which embrace to form the anterior edge of the pelvis. The pubic symphysis is connected by fibrocartilage and reinforced by ligaments, making it difficult to move normally. During pregnancy, hormonal influences cause slight separation of the two pubic bones, allowing the fetus to be delivered smoothly. When the pain is severe, bed rest is necessary. The best sleeping position is the left lateral position. After delivery, the pain will disappear.
