Maynard Keynes - The Founder of Modern Macroeconomics

Features: Many biographies of various figures have been published in China, including politicians, scientists, philosophers, writers, and entrepreneurs, but there has yet to be a comprehensive series introducing economists. Of course, there have been sporadic translations or biographies of Western economists written by Chinese scholars, but they are not systematic and mostly focus on the economic theories of contemporary Nobel laureates in economics. Biographies of economics masters since Adam Smith, written by Chinese scholars, are still relatively rare in China. This series aims to fill this gap. Over the past 200 years, Western economics has undergone numerous revolutions and has produced countless renowned economists who have earned their place in the history of economic thought due to their significant contributions. However, among these economists, who can truly be called "masters of economics"? There is no universally accepted definition, so the selection of economists for this "Biographies of Economics Masters Series" inevitably involves some subjective judgment. Nevertheless, we adhere to two principles: first, economists who have made globally recognized groundbreaking contributions, hold important academic positions in economic thought, and are frequently mentioned in contemporary economic literature; second, economists who have published relatively complete personal biographies, including autobiographies. Some economists who could be considered masters are excluded from our series due to the lack of complete personal biographies. Of course, many economists have published personal biographies with significant contributions, but they are also excluded from this series. It should be noted that Marxist classics writers, such as Marx and Engels, undoubtedly qualify as masters of economics and have numerous biographies available. However, as proletarian revolutionary leaders, they are traditionally not classified as part of the Western economics tradition. Therefore, they are not included in this series.
