Operations Research General Theory - (Revised Edition)

Author: Wei Quanling, Hu Xianyou, Yan Ying edited
Publisher:
Publishing Time: 2003-01-01
Features: The new edition of "Introduction to Operations Research" has added some simpler proofs when discussing the main branches of operations research. On the one hand, it helps to clarify the concepts; on the other hand, through the teaching of operations research, it trains students' ability to use mathematics for creativity. The readership of this book is relatively broad. "Fundamentals of Economic Application Mathematics" is a trial teaching material for higher financial and economic colleges, commissioned by the Ministry of Education, and is divided into five volumes in total. "Introduction to Operations Research" is the fifth volume of this series. The new edition has added some simpler proofs when discussing the main branches of operations research. On the one hand, it helps to clarify the concepts; on the other hand, through the teaching of operations research, it trains students' ability to use mathematics for creativity. Some chapters have been strengthened, such as game theory and nonlinear programming. The addition of game theory content is to meet the need of applying economic game theory to study practical problems in today's economic, management, and financial fields; the strengthening of certain theoretical content in nonlinear programming (especially the Kuhn-Tucker theorem) is because these theories are used as the foundation in discussions in fields such as economics (e.g., microeconomics, mathematical economics, quantitative economics, etc.). At the same time, a new chapter has been added on a new field in operations research—data envelopment analysis (DEA). Certain chapters have also been removed, such as the chapter on "Quality Management." Additionally, a chapter on "Linear Programming" has been added, which provides an introduction to linear programming (Linear Programming by Hu Fuchang has been published as an independent book under "Fundamentals of Economic Application Mathematics"). The addition of this chapter is because certain content of linear programming is required in the later chapters of this book (e.g., nonlinear programming, multi-objective programming, integer programming, game theory, data envelopment analysis, etc.).
