Features: This book is designed for engineering master's degree candidates, agricultural extension master's degree candidates, veterinary master's degree candidates, landscape architecture master's degree candidates, as well as full-time teachers in higher education institutions and secondary vocational schools pursuing master's degrees. The book has the following characteristics:
1. It is strictly compiled according to the "Guidance for the Entrance Examination for Master's Degree Candidates of Professional Master's Programs" organized by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. It includes approximately 4,250 words, consisting of about 500 common phrases and around 1,800 frequently used words and 200 common phrases that require mastery in reusable forms.
2. Each entry provides synonyms, antonyms, derived words, or words related to the meaning of the entry. On the one hand, this increases the frequency of word repetition to deepen memory. On the other hand, it provides candidates with a way to expand associations and divergent thinking, helping them establish the concept of word chains. Instead of memorizing words or phrases in isolation, candidates learn a string of words by recognizing one, achieving the effect of quickly improving vocabulary in a relatively short period.
3. Under key common entries, fixed structures and semantic collocations are provided as idiomatic usage. Those explicitly specified in the outline are marked in black italics. Additionally, based on the authors' years of teaching and exam tutoring experience, common collocations that are often difficult for non-native speakers to master but frequently tested or easily misunderstood due to interference from Chinese are listed to address candidates' "literal interpretation" issues.
4. Key phrases are listed separately with example sentences, accompanied by Chinese translations, to help candidates deeply understand and master the exact meaning and usage of each phrase, as well as the similarities and differences in Chinese expression, thereby achieving the goal of not only memorizing but also using them effectively.
5. The appendix provides prefixes and suffixes specified in the outline, a list of common abbreviations, an English-Chinese table of the names of major countries, regions, their capitals, and main cities, as well as common word roots.
6. To facilitate candidates' learning, we have also summarized key grammar points in the appendix in a concise and clear manner.
7. Based on the important role of auditory memory in language learning, we have provided recordings by foreign experts for each word and phrase. Candidates can associate the word form and meaning while listening, achieving the goal of integrating sound, form, and meaning to strengthen memory.
8. Considering that candidates are all working professionals with relatively flexible study times and locations, this book adopts a small format to facilitate portability and on-the-go learning.
In summary, the writing principle of this book is: guided by the outline, focused on the exam, based on candidates' needs, meticulously compiled, and highlighting key points.
