Secondary infertility

Patient's question:

I've been married to my wife for three years, and we've never taken any contraceptive measures. We've also been trying hard to have a baby, but my wife hasn't been able to conceive. We took her to get checked, and there were no physical issues with either of us. The doctor said that it's possible my wife might have secondary infertility.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, couples of childbearing age who have previously given birth or been pregnant and have been living together for a year with normal sexual activity and have previously been pregnant are referred to as having secondary infertility if they have never taken any contraceptive measures and have failed to conceive. Factors or causes such as induced abortion, medication-induced abortion, immunological infertility, ovarian dysfunction, sexually transmitted diseases, amenorrhea, and others can all lead to secondary infertility.
