The first edition of The Turbulent Zhejiang Entrepreneurs was launched in 2004. Although it lacked flashy packaging and promotion, it still received great popularity. The second edition, building on the strengths of the first while making some improvements, differs from other similar books in several ways.
First, the selection of characters is different from that of similar books. This is naturally determined by the positioning of the All Under Heaven Zhejiang Entrepreneurs column. In addition to well-known senior Zhejiang entrepreneurs like Zong Qinghou and Lou Zhongfu, there are more new faces. While they are leaders in their respective fields or have made outstanding contributions in certain aspects, the general public knows relatively little about them. It is precisely because of this that these entrepreneurs may be able to provide readers with more information, more freshness, more inspiration, and more references.
Second, the perspective of observation is different. Beyond showcasing their achievements or business acumen, the book focuses on uncovering the reasons behind their success and the underlying patterns. For example, they are adept at spotting business opportunities that others overlook—why can others seize an opportunity while you cannot? Wealth is not the ultimate goal of entrepreneurship, and there is no necessary correlation between the amount of wealth and the realization of life’s value or the level of quality of life. Upholding integrity and social responsibility is the key to ultimate business success; emotional intelligence is more important than intellectual quotient; persistence and focus are more important than chasing opportunities. These principles are vividly illustrated through the stories of the characters in the book.
Third, the entrepreneurial stories of the Zhejiang entrepreneurs in the book serve as greater inspiration and reference for more people. Almost all the entrepreneurs in the book started from scratch and were certainly not geniuses. Their success was not overnight or smooth sailing. What they achieved, ordinary people can also achieve—as long as you have determination, confidence, and continuous effort. Although the threshold for entrepreneurship is higher now than it was a decade and a half ago, different eras offer different opportunities, and there is never a latecomer in entrepreneurship. As long as you take action, you can definitely succeed.
