How is candidal vulvovaginitis considered completely cured?

Patient's question:

How can candidiasis be considered completely cured? I have been suffering from this disease for half a year now, it's quite severe, and I still have white discharge. How is candidiasis actually considered cured?

Doctor's answer:

Vaginal candidiasis Use alkaline solutions such as 2~4% sodium bicarbonate or soapy water to rinse the external genitalia and vagina, altering the vaginal pH to make it unfavorable for the growth of fungi. After rinsing, insert Nystatin tablets or suppositories into the vagina, 100,000~200,000 units each time, once nightly, for a course of 10~14 days. Apply 3% miconazole cream to the external genitalia afterward for better results. For persistent cases, oral ketoconazole or clotrimazole can be taken to eliminate intestinal candidiasis, or miconazole can be used topically. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed, washed, and boiled daily. After one course of treatment, a negative fungal test result is required. Subsequent follow-up tests for fungi should also be negative after each menstrual cycle. Three consecutive consolidation courses are needed to consider the condition cured. It is best if the male partner is also treated. Shoes and socks should be washed separately from underwear. Condoms are recommended during intercourse.
