Why is sperm yellow?

Patient's question:

Hello, expert, I would like to consult something. My semen is yellow, but I think normal semen is white, right. If I want to have a child now, will it affect the child? Thank you

Doctor's answer:

Normal semen expelled by a healthy male is viscous, milky white, and contains grayish-white clumps. Approximately 10 to 20 minutes later, these clumps will naturally liquefy, turning into a translucent, cloudy, and thin viscous fluid. The odor of semen is produced by arginine, secreted by the prostate, and has a unique fishy smell. If the semen appears yellow, it may indicate inflammation, such as prostatitis, or the presence of urine in the semen. Certain antibiotics and frequent sexual activity can make the semen more transparent, while longer intervals between sexual activity can result in a yellower semen color.
If the semen is light yellow and you are trying to conceive, it is recommended to visit a hospital for related examinations to confirm the diagnosis. If everything is normal, fertility is not an issue. However, if there is an inflammatory infection, prompt treatment is necessary. It is better to conceive after the infection has been fully cured.
