Features: Since the 1980s, Cheng Chung-ying has frequently visited mainland China for lectures and academic exchanges, becoming a well-known contemporary scholar in the domestic academic circles. Some of his works have also been published in the Chinese academic field. The four-volume Collected Works of Cheng Chung-ying is the most comprehensive compilation of his academic works to date. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, the collection primarily includes his monographs and papers published in Chinese, with a significant number of his English works left out.
Volume 1 On the Spirit of Chinese and Western Philosophy: This volume includes Cheng Chung-ying's discussions and the main body of his monograph Choices at the Turn of the Century—On the Integration and Fusion of Chinese and Western Philosophy, along with ten other articles. The articles can be divided into three groups: (1) The characteristics of Chinese philosophy; (2) The characteristics of Western philosophy; (3) Comparisons of Chinese and Western philosophy.
Volume 2 Confucianism and Neo-Confucianism: This collection consists entirely of papers, including major works by Cheng Chung-ying on the historical development, theoretical characteristics, and future trends of Confucianism and modern Neo-Confucianism. It comprehensively presents Cheng Chung-ying's views on Confucianism and modern Neo-Confucianism. The papers can be divided into three groups: (1) Studies on the thought and theories of key figures in the historical development of Confucianism and modern Neo-Confucianism; (2) The main fields of discourse and fundamental theoretical characteristics of Confucianism and modern Neo-Confucianism; (3) The contemporary significance and future trends of Confucianism.
Volume 3 Ethics and Management: This volume includes Cheng Chung-ying's monograph C Theory—Yi Jing Management Philosophy, in which he applies the cultural concepts of ontological hermeneutics to "ethics" and "management" to infuse value ideals into modern society and life, along with eight other papers. The papers can be divided into two parts: (1) The theoretical characteristics of Chinese ethics and their modern transformation; (2) The theoretical framework for the localization of Chinese management.
Volume 4 Ontological Hermeneutics: This collection consists entirely of papers, including twenty-five articles by Cheng Chung-ying that explain the basic theories of ontological hermeneutics and analyze Chinese and Western philosophy using ontological hermeneutics as a theoretical framework. The papers can be divided into three parts: (1) Explanations of the basic theories of ontological hermeneutics; (2) Ontological hermeneutics and Western philosophy; (3) Ontological hermeneutics and Chinese philosophy.
