Features: In the long-term development of medicine, a vast number of terms have been continuously created, accumulating over time to form a massive English medical terminology system. Its quantity may rank first among all scientific fields. Overall, these terms are truly diverse and can be considered a treasure in the English language. They possess flexible and varied word formation patterns and extremely rich expressive capabilities. Highly valuable in application, they are also relatively difficult to master. If one can understand the underlying principles of their word formation, it may lead to twice the result with half the effort in learning.
The characteristics of medical terminology, from one perspective, are relatively complex in structure, with longer word forms (composed of more letters), extensively using Latin and Greek roots and prefixes and suffixes. From another perspective, their expression methods are also quite unique, such as the use of names of people, places, animals, plants, colors, shapes, quantities, and metaphors in terminology. They cover a wide range of knowledge, are vivid and imaginative, and leave one pondering. Thus, they form a unique category of medical terminology. It is not out of place to call this type of terminology "special terminology." However, calling it "interesting terminology" may better capture the essence of its uniqueness.
Through years of teaching, the editor observed such terms while reading a large number of English medical literature, gradually accumulating and categorizing them into a systematic classification. They indeed possess a special quality. After further collection and research recently, this book was compiled and named "Interesting Terminology" to delight the readers. We believe that through classification and systematization, it can spark readers' interest in systematically learning this type of medical terminology and help them grasp it more effectively.
