Features: "Old Houses" – that's what the common people call the ancient residential buildings where their ancestors have lived for generations. They are indeed old, increasingly distant from modernity, even their descendants no longer want them. They are either demolished or sold to build modern, luxurious buildings that are both stylish and practical. This is understandable. With economic development, this destructive construction will only intensify. Old houses, like endangered rare animals, are becoming fewer and fewer (a few famous person's former residences are fortunate to be spared). What follows is the loss of precious cultural heritage, architectural art, and valuable tourism resources. By the time we realize, it might be too late. The unique atmosphere and cultural ambiance of old houses will be gone forever, and even if we build many new "antiques," it will be in vain.
The purpose of the editors in publishing this "Old Houses" photo album is twofold: first, to awaken people's recognition of the value of old residential buildings, to show mercy and preserve more of the magnificent old houses; second, even if they are all demolished, at least let the old houses leave some images for future generations or extraterrestrials! This book is one of the series, showcasing the overall style of Sichuanese residential architecture to a wide audience through numerous authentic photographic images.
