Features: This book is one of the 21st Century Law Series textbooks of Renmin University of China. Under the premise of considering the basic requirements of textbook development, the textbook focuses on the attention and reflection on practical issues. For the main issues of the social security legal system, the textbook discusses the current status of the issue after reviewing its historical evolution; it is based on the development of the social security legal system in China from the period of New Democracy, since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and more importantly, it elaborates on the changes, development, and goals since the reform and opening-up, especially since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee. For the discussion of different types of foreign social security systems, as well as the elaboration of social security international conventions and recommendations, the textbook attempts to take the practical needs of China's social security legal system construction as both the starting point and the destination. The main target audience of this textbook is undergraduate and graduate students, dual-degree students, night university students, correspondence students, as well as self-study candidates for undergraduate and graduate degrees. The construction of the social security legal system is a matter affecting the reform process and related to all citizens. Whether it is expanding the coverage of social insurance, increasing the collection rate of social insurance fees, improving the unemployment insurance system, or promoting the social management and service of old-age insurance, reforming the expenditure model of public medical expenses, or transforming the role of social relief—all these require the regulation of the Social Insurance Law. In China's current social security legal system, there is still no social security or social insurance law. It has become an urgent task to improve the legal construction of social security and regulate social issues such as childbirth, illness, old age, occupational injury and relief, preferential treatment, and social welfare in accordance with the law. In view of this, the textbook focuses on the attention and reflection on practical issues under the premise of considering the basic requirements of textbook development. For the main issues of the social security legal system, the textbook discusses the current status of the issue after reviewing its historical evolution. Based on the previous edition of the textbook, this edition has been comprehensively revised according to the new developments in the discipline and related theories, involving the following new issues: 1. The impact of diversified employment forms on the scope of application of the "Social Insurance Law"; 2. The impact of increased life expectancy on the retirement age determined by the "Social Insurance Law"; 3. The impact of illegal employment units on the application of work-related injury insurance; 4. The impact of employment pressure on the function of unemployment insurance; 5. The impact of changes in the content of labor relations on the benefits of maternity insurance.
