“Science philosophy without the history of science is empty, and the history of science without science philosophy is blind.” The author believes that for Chinese scholars, both natural science and social science, which are the mainstreams of today's world academia, are products of Western culture. The main reason for the decline in the level of Chinese scientific research is that Chinese scientific researchers lack a corresponding understanding of Western science philosophy. Based on this understanding, this book takes Wittgenstein's linguistic philosophy as a starting point and systematically introduces the main contributions of seventeen Western thinkers to positivism, post-positivism, structuralism, hermeneutics, and critical theory. It hopes that the perspectives presented in this book can become the vision for Chinese young scholars to embark on their academic careers and lay a solid foundation for the development of science in Chinese society.
