His encouragement and support for young painters are widely praised. His recent introduction of ink and wash landscapes has presented a unique face, showcasing the insight and courage of this octogenarian, as if achieving new exploration through returning to tradition. Those who understand the Chinese concept of "five shades of ink" know that the differences between "charcoal, dense, heavy, light, and faint" all depend on the amount of water mixed in the ink. Using charcoal ink with extremely low water content for painting, on one hand, raises more refined demands for ink usage—achieving wetness through dryness, richness through dryness, transforming density into lightness, using brushwork instead of ink, and simplifying complexity. The artistic language undoubtedly becomes stronger and purer. On the other hand, the weakening of ink techniques inevitably opens up new paths for liberating brushwork. It still largely transcends the conventional style. To independently form brushwork that helps express emotions and sentiments, one must "[pursue the eight extremes, roam the ten thousand peaks in spirit]." Although this is the case, this art of "[reaching the source from within]" is still based on "[learning from nature outside]." It is not ethereal or detached but grounded and realistic.
