Features: Xu Shuwei, styled Zhike, lived approximately from 1080 to 1154 AD. He was a native of Baisha in Zhenzhou (now Yizheng, Jiangsu Province) during the Song Dynasty. As he once served as a Scholar in the Hanlin Academy and the Jixian Institute, he was often referred to as "Xu Scholar" by later generations. He was not only a renowned expert in the study of Shanghan (a classical Chinese medical theory) during the Song Dynasty but also greatly influenced the development of clinical medicine in later generations with his insights into the treatment of miscellaneous diseases. This book collects four extant works by Xu Shuwei, namely Shanghan Bai Zheng Ge (Hundred Cases of Shanghan in Verse), Shanghan Fa Wei Lun (Elucidations on Shanghan), Shanghan Jiu Shi Lun (Ninety Cases of Shanghan), (the above three books are collectively known as Xu Shuwei’s Three Works on Shanghan), and Puji Shouben Fang (Essential Prescriptions for Universal Relief). Based on the Qing Dynasty’s Shiwan juan lou congshu (Ten Thousand Volume Tower Series) of the Guangxu era, the Linlang misi of the same era, and the Japanese edition of the Kansei era published by Soga Hachiro, this book provides annotations and collations of Xu Shuwei’s extant works, as well as an examination of the authenticity of Puji Shouben Fang (Continuation of Essential Prescriptions for Universal Relief), presenting the author’s personal views. At the end of the book is an article titled “A Study on the Academic Thought of Xu Shuwei,” which provides a detailed introduction to his life, writings, academic thought, diagnostic and treatment experiences, and his influence on later generations of medicine. Additionally, an appendix titled “Bibliography of Papers” lists the titles of published works on Xu Shuwei’s academic thought from 1950 to 2004, facilitating readers’ research. This book holds certain reference value for those engaged in traditional Chinese medicine education and clinical practice.
