What is the reason for the reduced amount of semen?

Patient's question:

What is the reason for feeling that the amount of semen has decreased? I am 23 years old, unmarried, and have had masturbation for 5 years. Recently, I was very frequent, but the amount of semen was also very high. However, for the past ten days, I haven't masturbated, and last night I found that the amount of semen was very little. Please ask the doctor what could be the reason for feeling that the amount of semen is decreasing?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: A majority of infertile patients suffer from oligospermia. A normal semen sample contains more than 20 million sperm per mL. If the sperm count is less than 20 million per mL, it is classified as oligospermia. Between 5 million and 10 million per mL is considered moderate oligospermia; less than 5 million per mL is classified as severe oligospermia. The causes include: (1) congenital testicular dysgenesis or cryptorchidism leading to impaired spermatogenesis (2) varicocele of the seminal vesicles, hydrocele of the tunica vaginalis (3) inflammation of the reproductive tract (4) immune suppression and endocrine disorders (5) chromosomal abnormalities, etc. Since the underlying causes vary, the treatment methods also differ.
