Through the landscape of "Chinese Oil Painting," one can observe the changes in Chinese society, the progression of Chinese history, and the richness of people's lives. One can also appreciate the endless diversity of productive Chinese oil paintings and the distinctive personalities of numerous painters. In a certain sense, Chinese oil painting is one of the most culturally rich visual forms in the contemporary art world.
He Dalong, a graduate of the Oil Painting Department at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, became renowned in the early 1980s as a representative of the "Injury Art" movement with works such as the oil paintings Spring Has Already Awakened and Youth, and the comic series Snow Goose. His artistic skills are solid and comprehensive, and through his paintings, one can feel a life force that emanates from the author's inner being. More importantly, based on his study of Western oil painting techniques, he integrates traditional Chinese culture, particularly the philosophical concepts of harmony between nature and humanity, and the unity of the external world and the inner world in traditional Chinese thought, leaving a unique Chinese cultural imprint on his works.
He Dalong's works are not only profound in thought and technically brilliant but, even more is his relentless exploration and the constant presentation of new perspectives. As a highly creative Chinese painter, his art allows viewers to experience the profound essence of life's beauty from multiple dimensions. He Dalong is one of the representative painters of contemporary Chinese oil painting. In 1994, he held a solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China. Twelve years later, he returned to the same venue for another exhibition, which was a grander cultural space and an artistic dialogue with a different cultural backdrop—a dialogue that fosters communication of the soul and enhances mutual understanding.
