Features: The philosophy of Mencius is a towering peak in the spiritual world. His dialectical language clarifies the mists of confusion in human nature, and his wise thoughts open the door to harmonious existence. Entering the world of Mencius, we can perceive the truth and joy of life. The Book of Mencius was written by Mencius, a representative figure of Confucianism in the mid-Warring States period and a great thinker, along with his students. It is a significant summary and supplement of Confucian thought. Together with The Book of Xunzi, it stands as two peaks of Confucianism during the Warring States period. As a Confucian figure second only to Confucius, The Book of Mencius, which reflects the thoughts of the "Second Sage," has been revered as a classic of Confucianism for thousands of years and is a necessary textbook for students to cultivate their character. Liang Qichao once said, "For self-cultivation and practical use, The Analects are like food, nourishing the body: The Book of Mencius is like medicine, removing ailments and invigorating the spirit." So, what ailments does it remove? Of course, our own weaknesses of human nature. Are we wavering between "advancement and retreat, speech and silence, taking and giving"? Are we upright, selfless, and unbiased? Are we resolute, unyielding in the face of adversity? Are we willing to care for the suffering of the world and help others? In a sense, the success of an individual is also the success of their character. Mencius, with his noble character, has supported us in building a towering peak in the spiritual world. He stands tall in the interwoven tapestry of time and space, majestic and unyielding. He has passed through the dust of history and stands clearly before us, dispelling the veils of human confusion. Whether later Confucians have placed as many crowns upon him as the emperors of past dynasties, we set those aside for now. First, we should see the compassionate heart of a philosopher who lived in turmoil, hear his stirring and spirited words, and see the ideal state he depicted for us—a place filled with abundance, harmony, understanding, and care. We should see the beautiful political vision he described, where rulers are tolerant, respect the worthy, empower the capable, and practice benevolence. We should see the ideal realm he portrayed, where only kindness, tolerance, restraint, and care exist. We should hear the words that inspire our lives and weigh the significance of our existence. We should listen to the wise dialogues that help us understand the concepts and joys of life. In Mencius's words and deeds, we can reflect on the political views, life philosophy, values, and ethical perspectives of this wise figure. Although we wear modern clothes, savor today's delicacies, and speak of current matters, there are still many universal principles in the slowly evolving human nature that shine across different eras and lives. Perhaps our fleeting glimpses are just appreciating individual aspects of this towering peak—Mencius. We cannot fully encompass its entirety, but we believe this will still be a beneficial journey.
