Photographer Reference Series -- Dialogues with Photography Masters

Author: Frank Hovart (France)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2000-10-01
Features: This book presents the reflections of 14 photography masters on the essence of photography. These serious questions are approached in a relaxed dialogue format. Since the interviewer Frank Hovart himself is also a renowned photographer, he has made careful observations and thoughts about the photographers he admires. Moreover, his aspiration to write has given him a keen sensitivity to language, allowing him to address each artist's style from different angles. He spent four years traveling, visiting places outside of Paris, as well as the United Kingdom, Italy, the United States, Japan, and beyond. The interviews with the two Japanese photographers were conducted with translation, while the others were conducted in the original language (then translated into French), enabling lively and engaging discussions. The French version of this book was initially released in the middle of 1990 and not only caused a huge stir in the photography world but was also praised by scholars from other art fields and cultural circles as a rare and deeply profound yet vividly lively dialogue record in recent years.
