Features: The presence of ordered assemblies of surfactant molecules (micelles, reverse micelles, adsorbed micelles, vesicles, microemulsions, etc.) can catalyze or inhibit certain chemical reactions. Utilizing micellar, microemulsion, and other systems to achieve, regulate, and control the rate of chemical reactions (i.e., micellar catalysis and microemulsion catalysis) not only expands the application scope of surfactants but also opens up new fields in catalytic research. It is currently a hot topic in the physical chemistry of surfactants and microheterogeneous catalysis. This book primarily introduces the fundamental principles, theoretical models, and recent developments of catalytic effects in micellar, adsorbed micellar, and microemulsion systems. It qualitatively or quantitatively discusses various factors influencing the catalytic effects of these systems with examples. It also provides a brief introduction and comparison of the catalytic effects of metal micelles, vesicles, and reverse micelles. To facilitate reading, basic knowledge of micelles and solubilization, adsorbed micelles and adsorbed solubilization, and microemulsions is introduced at the beginning of each chapter. This book is suitable for technical personnel engaged in surfactant, microheterogeneous catalysis research, and organic synthesis. It can also serve as a reference book for undergraduate and graduate students in chemistry and chemical engineering majors studying physical chemistry of surfactants, colloid and interface chemistry, and catalytic chemistry.
