Features: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), jointly organized by the Japan Foundation and the Foundation for International Education of Japan, has been implemented in and outside Japan for 16 years since 1984. Today, the test has become a language proficiency examination with significant international influence. China has a vast number of Japanese enthusiasts, learners, and institutions at all levels engaged in Japanese teaching and research. The JLPT has not only garnered widespread attention from the aforementioned individuals and institutions but has also objectively become a standard for measuring people's Japanese learning proficiency and application ability. Meanwhile, we have also observed that the test is having a positive impact on areas such as studying in Japan, recruitment and assessment in Japanese companies. As a result, the number of people taking the test in various examination centers across the country (including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) has been continuously increasing in recent years. According to incomplete statistics, Chinese participants account for more than one-third of the total number of test-takers in recent years, both domestically (excluding Taiwan) and in Japan. If the number of participants from Taiwan is added, the proportion of Chinese test-takers would be even higher. Compared to this enthusiastic and urgent learning demand, the current situation of reference book compilation and publication for the test in China has not met expectations. This is not only reflected in the lack of officially published reference materials compared to Japan but also in the severe infringement of intellectual property rights within China. As a result, on one hand, it has brought inconvenience to a large number of learners, and on the other hand, it has exposed the relevant authorities in China to many avoidable external criticisms and criticisms.,we have tried to change this situation through our own efforts. To provide more authoritative and detailed study materials for the domestic readers, especially for those who will take this test, to provide systematic and rich research materials for individuals engaged in Japanese teaching and research, and to effectively promote the development of Japanese teaching and research to a higher level, we—the former Japanese students—have jointly compiled this "Japanese Language Proficiency Test Questions and Answers, 1991–1999."
The questions included in this book cover all levels from 1 to 4 of the test for nine consecutive years from 1991 to 1999. They are organized into four volumes according to the four levels of the exam. Each volume is arranged not only by year but also in the order of the exam sections. Additionally, audio tapes accompany the listening comprehension sections for each year. To demonstrate the completeness and practicality of the questions, we have appended the passing standards for the exam. Furthermore, we have included answer sheets and scoring standards for each year's questions for reference. For printing and convenience of use, the format of this edition matches that of the version published in Japan, with slight reductions compared to the exam format.
Apart from the questions, we have specially invited two experts—Mr. Kazuyoshi Nishizumi and Ms. Megumi Mizuno—who have long been engaged in Japanese teaching and are very familiar with the Japanese learning situations of Chinese students in Japan, as well as those with expertise in theoretical research and Sino-Japanese cultural exchange—to write articles for the readers, introducing how to improve learning efficiency and how to perform well on the exam. We believe that the opinions of these two experts will be helpful to everyone.
Additionally, based on extensive and in-depth research, we have provided readers with a comprehensive analysis article, the data for which are invaluable. Through this analysis, we hope to help readers gain a more comprehensive understanding of the exam and to focus their review on their weaknesses, conducting planned and purposeful training.
At the end of each volume, we have selected 10 experience-sharing articles from numerous submitted works. The authors come from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jilin, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hunan, and other provinces and cities, with an average age of 30. They took the exam in regions such as Tokyo, Kyoto-Kobe-Osaka, Kyushu in Japan, and Beijing in China. The highest score among them was 389. They are now active both domestically and in Japan. We hope that their personal experiences will help readers reevaluate their learning, identify their weaknesses, and leverage their strengths to achieve better results in the exam.
To uphold the seriousness of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and its related publications, and to demonstrate respect for the intellectual property rights—copyright and author's rights—of the test organizers and the original question authors, the editorial committee formally applied to the Japan Foundation in February of this year and obtained permission to publish the questions and answers from 1991 to 1999 in China. Subsequently, the editorial committee spent over two months obtaining publication and reuse permissions from nearly 100 renowned question authors and relevant publishing houses.
