Features: This book contains 160 articles, of which 117 are selected from previous editions and 43 are newly added. The content primarily describes foods that offer nutritional, disease-preventive, and therapeutic benefits to the human body, such as red beans, green beans, sesame seeds, peanuts, bananas, grapes, pumpkin, tomatoes, walnuts, and coix seeds. Alternatively, it delves into historical anecdotes and trivia on topics frequently discussed in daily life, such as business cards, doctors, grand gestures, hosts, literary refinement, and interior decoration. It also covers recent emphasis on preventive health measures, such as the history of isolating infectious disease patients, wearing masks, and handwashing during the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak. Additionally, the book explores other medical, literary, and historical subjects, such as "Ming Dynasty's 'Thousand-Mile Healthy Walk Powder'," "The Earliest Discovery and Naming of Vitamins," "Alzheimer's and 'Alzheimer's Disease'," "Wang Chong on 'Knowledge as Power'," "'Washing Ears' Was Originally Not for 'Listening Attentively'," and "Tang Taizong Playing Go." The book presents big ideas through small details, extraordinary insights through ordinary perspectives, and richness in brevity, offering an accessible yet profound exploration of the origins of medicine, the cultivation of medical practitioners, health and wellness, medical achievements, interesting and amusing stories in Chinese and foreign medicine, as well as historical and literary anecdotes. The writing style is both solemn and humorous, catering to both refined and popular audiences, yet remains straightforward and natural without losing its essence.
