How are embryos formed?

Patient's question:

How are embryos formed?

Doctor's answer:

(1) Within two weeks after fertilization (i.e., four weeks of amenorrhea), it is called the zygote period, during which the fertilized egg undergoes rapid cell division to form a blastocyst.
(2) Up to eight weeks of pregnancy, it is referred to as the embryonic period, when the embryo begins to take on a human-like shape, and all organs develop and form during this stage. For example, the heart has formed and begins to beat, while the liver and kidneys also start to develop, hence it is also known as the period of embryonic organ formation.
(3) After eight weeks of pregnancy, it is called the fetal period, during which the organs continue to develop and mature until delivery.
