If you have sex during the safe period and sperm enters, will you get pregnant?

Patient's question:

If you have sex during the safe period and sperm enters, will you get pregnant??

Doctor's answer:

Hello:
Calendar rhythm contraception refers to avoiding sexual intercourse during the fertile period (the time around ovulation when pregnancy is most likely) without using any contraception methods or undergoing surgery, in order to achieve the purpose of contraception.
In women of reproductive age, ovulation typically occurs in the middle of two menstrual cycles, which is known as the ovulation period. After the egg is released, the window for fertilization is within 24 hours. Once sperm enters the female reproductive tract, if it acquires the ability to fertilize (becomes capacitated) in the healthy cervical mucus, it can survive for 1 to 3 days. If the average menstrual cycle is 28 days, ovulation usually occurs 14 days before the start of the next period. If the exact time of ovulation can be determined, avoiding sexual intercourse during the high-risk fertility window (5 days before ovulation and 1 week after ovulation) and having no restrictions outside this period can achieve the goal of contraception, which is known as calendar rhythm contraception.
