The author thinks it should be quite an interesting book. The author has been fighting on the chess battlefield for over twenty years. Chess has given the author joy, honor, but also heartache and tears, yet the author has never regretted it. Thank you, chess. Thank you for everything chess has brought. Then, what can the author do for you? In February 2003, through the author's efforts and with the support of relevant leaders from Peking University and the China Chess Association, the "Chess Culture and Tactics" elective course was successfully launched at Peking University. The author hopes to use this window at Peking University to promote and popularize the world of chess, so that more students and more people will fall in love with this meaningful activity. How to teach chess, a game with thousands of years of cultural heritage, to the top students at Peking University was indeed a great challenge for the author. While preparing lessons, the author collected and reviewed many chess books and publications. However, faced with the vast array of materials, the author could never find a book that perfectly matched the lecture content—one that was systematic yet concise, that covered both tactics and chess culture. At that time, the author conceived an idea: to write a book suitable for student reading. Over the years, this original intention has always lingered in the author's heart. Now, after teaching through so many semesters, combining the characteristics of the students, and drawing on the author's own chess learning experience and practical experience, the author has finally completed this book. This book is not only suitable for university elective courses but also for the vast number of intermediate and beginner chess enthusiasts. If you are a beginner, this book will guide you along a sunlit path, leading you into a wonderful and brand-new world. If you already have a certain level of skill, this book will help you solve some of the common difficulties you often encounter, allowing you to appreciate the even greater charm of chess.
