Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose:1. Candidiasis often recurs. External genitalia are treated with Compound Terbinafine Cream, the vagina with Miconazole Suppositories, and oral Nystatin Tablets. Can it be cured?
2. Is it necessary to rinse the vagina? The doctor previously advised not to rinse the vagina.
3. Sexual activity is prohibited during treatment. Can a condom be used? Is there a problem?
First follow-up question: What is antifungal cream? Did I use Compound Terbinafine before? What medicine is best for rinsing the vagina? For the remaining 23 days excluding the 7-day menstrual period, should the vagina be rinsed every day?
Doctor's answer:
Hello:To treat recurrent candidal vaginitis, it is first necessary to eliminate the causes that lead to repeated vaginal Candida infections, while extending the treatment duration and using multiple methods simultaneously. Local treatment can involve first using traditional Chinese herbal medicine for fumigation and sitz baths, followed by medication insertion into the vagina and topical application of antifungal ointment. Local treatment can be performed throughout the menstrual cycle, with medication discontinued during menstruation and continuing after the menstrual period ends. Oral Sporanox (200 mg per dose, once daily after meals) should be taken for three consecutive days. This treatment should be maintained for 1–2 months.
Vaginal (irrigation) is an excellent adjuvant treatment and is highly recommended for use.
It is advised to avoid sexual activity and, ideally, wait until the condition is fully cured to resume it, to prevent affecting the treatment outcome.
