Patient's question:
I am 21 years old, and I had my first period at the age of 13. My menstrual cycle is regular, with heavy bleeding, usually lasting three to five days. In recent months, I have been experiencing dizziness and palpitations a few days before my period, which disappear during the period. I don't have any signs of anemia and am generally in good health. I wonder if these symptoms could be premenstrual syndrome (PMS)? I take gamma-oryzanol regularly, but it hasn't helped.Doctor's answer:
Before menstruation, some girls may experience a series of symptoms, such as fatigue, irritability, depression, drowsiness, and even crying or anger for no reason. Severe cases may refuse to interact with parents and friends, becoming so isolated that they are bedridden. It is often accompanied by breast tenderness, a bloated feeling in the lower abdomen, and constipation. Some people also experience swelling 1-3 days before their period, especially morning swelling in their fingers, and afternoon swelling in their lower limbs. Others may have symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, impaired judgment, coordination problems, headaches, and general discomfort before their period.
