What causes contact bleeding due to cervical erosion?

Patient's question:

Please ask: What causes contact bleeding due to cervical erosion? Is the main reason sexual activity?????????????

Doctor's answer:

Due to the frequent presence of a large amount of mucus or purulent secretions covering the surface of the cervix, these secretions, along with long-term stimulation and infiltration of the squamous epithelium around the external os of the cervix, combined with inflammatory infiltration of the deeper cervical tissues, cause the squamous epithelium covering the cervix surface to lose vitality and fall off, forming ulcers. This is what is known as true erosion. However, this eroded surface is quickly covered by the surrounding columnar epithelium, forming a red area with a granular surface and a certain luster, known as false erosion. The cervical erosion we commonly encounter in our daily work mostly belongs to false erosion, while true erosion is merely a transient stage in this pathological process, and its outcome will be the covering of the surface by columnar epithelium, transforming it into false erosion.
