Patient's question:
If there are no white blood cells in the uterine secretion, can it be ruled out as bacterial?Doctor's answer:
Generally speaking, if a routine test of leukorrhea shows trichomoniasis or candidiasis infection, bacterial vaginosis can be ruled out. In other words, these two types of inflammation are not likely to occur together. Leukorrhea with bacterial inflammation is usually uniform and thin, often accompanied by burning and dyspareunia. However, 40% of patients have no symptoms. Metronidazole is the commonly used medication for treating bacterial vaginosis. The main symptom of candidiasis infection is an increase in leukorrhea with a "cheese-like" appearance.
